Just found out that Michael Leunig is no longer on this Earth.
It wasn't long ago that he was wondering what to do next, after he was let go from this long time in-house cartoonist job at The Age for 55 years. His first cartoon for this paper was in September 1969! I was not even 4 years old!
They cowardly let him go over his wise views on the 2020 psyop, pressured by the woke crowd. In other words, he was cancelled.
So he wouln't have to worry, after all. I hope he just enjoyed being, and his time off.
His soul would be moving along soon.
As it has.
He died on 12/19/24 at 79 years of age.
He was born on June 2, 1945 which made him a Gemini, like me! It's no wonder I loved his work.
GENTLENESS
I learned about Leunig (as with Frida Kahlo), through my sister's books. She had a couple of his adorable mini books and I so loved them at first read! I should have bought my own copies. I don't think they are printed anymore. They were little books of prayer with illustrations. I don't know how many he created but wikipedia reminds me some of the titles I recall: A Common Prayer, The Prayer Tree and When I Talk To You.
Anyway, it was the gentle characters and the child-like innocence of his creations that became a magnet to me. Simplicity in the illustrations, along with profound, deep topics.

THE AGE OF PROFIT
It's very sad and embarrassing that even the notice of this death could not have merited being off paywall by The Age. I do have a browser that allows me to "stop scripts" on every webpage I visit so I can read the article w/o paying. Suckers!
And they did it again on 12/20, again behind a paywall. It's looking like taking financial advantage of the artist they fired. Stop it. You let him go. So let him go.
